We had such a fun Halloween this year. We were all well, last year we had the stomach flu, and all of the kids "got" it this year. Our section of the neighborhood goes all out for the night. Some of friends in the neighborhood came over and went trick or treating with us, so that made that much more fun to watch all of our kids run from house to house. We have one street across from us that 3 or 4 houses are decorated like graveyards and the dad's dress up like the dead and pass out candy and scare the kids. We of course did that street first in the daylight, because in the dark it is to scary for our kids. Our neighbors across the street pass out hot dogs instead of candy, so the boys thought that was so cool to go get a hot dog. A couple of doors down from them they pass out hot chocolate and apple cider. Others were passing out glow sticks - the boys were in heaven.
When we came back to our house to pass out candy we just sat on the porch and feed the steady stream of candy pals. At the end of the night, we went through 20 pounds of candy in about an hours. Troy and I commented to each other, that our street was so loud with chatter, laughter and music, that it sounded like a football game. There were just crowds of people standing under the street light talking. It was really a sight. Every time we have an event like this where we are out in our neighborhood, we feel blessed to be here. This is the memories of neighborhoods that Troy and I grew up in and we wanted that experience for our kids. We wanted to be able to walk out in our front yard and know all of neighbors....and we have that.
After the trick or treating was done, we went over to some friends house and the kids run crazy, while we played cranium. Much to Troy's pleasure the boys kicked the girls bums, but it still was a fun way to end the night.
