Miles New Glasses

Miles finally got his glasses today. He has been so excited to get his glasses, and it has taken awhile to get them. We took him to an Optometrist who refered us to an Ophthamologist. We took in his prescription and was told it would take awhile to get the "kid lens." I called on Tuesday to see if the glasses were done, told yes. So got Miles excited that we were going to get the glasses to get there and find out that they had the wrong lens. So, today is finally the day that he got to leave with his glasses. I think that he looks cute - a little like George from Stuart Little.

Tyson are You Tired?

We are all exhausted after the last week of driving to Nauvoo and back, and going on little sleep. I think that it caught up with Tyson. This is him at dinner last night.

Liberty Jail

We took an extra day going home so that we could go to Liberty Jail. I was amazed at how small the jail was. I have seen pictures of it, and watched movies were they show Joseph Smith in the jail, but it was something else to see it.

I am glad that we were able to stop and see the church history sights. I want my boys to know the history of our church. I do think that it will help them understand, and gain there own testimonies of this gospel. And gain a greater appreciation of what some of their early ancestors did for them.

Nauvoo

We met my two older brothers and their families and my parents in Nauvoo. The boys were so excited to see their cousins. Tyson has been asking me for the last couple of days, "Is Alex my cousin, or Miles cousin?" "Is Jaxon my cousin, or Miles cousins?" He goes down through the list of all the cousins. He hears me talk about my family and Troy talk about his family, and is now trying to figure out which family is his - but gets really confused that Daddy and Mommy's family are both his family.

We had fun in Nauvoo - Miles remembered some of the things that we did last year. So this time we tried to go in the shops that we didn't see last time. I think that it is fascinating to see how that community lived and worked together to make such a beautiful city. I would love to have seen how it really was in the 1830's.

This time I seemed to be more reflective on how much the early saints were committed to their religion. On Sunday we drove down Parley Street to the waters edge and looked out over the water. This is the road that the saints would have walked down and crossed the river as they were being driving from their homes. As I was standing there in the bitter cold with the snow falling, I can't image how they felled leaving their homes in the middle to of the winter and walking to Utah. I wonder if I have the same conviction as they did toward what I believe.

Our Day in Independence

We left Troy's parents and started our drive to Nauvoo. I am adding to my thanks and saying that I am thankful that Troy let us stop and sleep in a hotel Thursday, instead of driving all the way to Nauvoo in one night.

We stopped and spent about half a day in Independence, Missouri. The boys liked the visitor center, it was very kids friendly (at the least the part we saw). They got to climb on a wagon, and horse and run through a cabin. I enjoyed a refresher course of the church history from that area.

After the visitor center we walked through the Community of Christ temple. It was interesting to hear their version of Joseph Smith, and the doctrine that they decided to keep from our church and what they changed. Miles stayed with me through the tour, while Troy wrestled Drew and Tyson since he had seen the tour before. Miles didn't have to much to say about it. I think that he was bored and didn't really understand what the guy was talking about.

A day of Thanks

We had a great Thanksgiving. We spent the day at Troy's parents with his sisters and their families. We had a great time with the family, and had a wonderful dinner. To bad we left town and didn't get any leftovers.

I like Thanksgiving and the time to reflect and give thanks. I am thankful that I live in the United States of America and for the freedoms that I enjoy. I am thankful that we live close to my parents and Troy's parents and that our kids get to see their Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and cousins often. Mostly I am thankful for my loving husband, and sweet boys.

Disney on Ice

We took the kids to see Finding Nemo on Ice the last Wednesday. We didn't tell the kids what we were doing, just that we had a really fun night planning for the family. So we picked up Troy from work and then took the boys to Cici's Pizza, at the request of the boys.Then went down to Reunion Arena for the show. We had great seats, and all the boys, even Drew enjoyed the show. We had a lot of fun, and it was a great start to our holiday season.

Tyson was so excited about the lights that they were selling, and really wanted one. I told him no, that we could get something else. Anyway - as we sitting there waiting for the show to start, every time one of the guys selling the lights would walk by Tyson would jump out of his seat and yell "pick me, pick me" while waving his arms over his head. Needless to say, after about the 4th guy walked by, and everyone behind us was laughing, I bought a light.

Miles little funny thing about the night. Thursday we went over to Troy's parents house for dinner. When Kelly, Troy's sister, came in Miles went up to her and said "guess what we did last night? We went to Walt Disney World!" If Miles got this excited about Disney on Ice - I can't wait to take him to Disneyland.
